Jodie & Giles' Wedding Album

Jodie & Giles wanted a clean fresh classic look for their wedding album design utilising white space to frame their beautiful wedding photos and as they wanted a flow to their photos, we didn’t use any full bleed images. To finish off their album, they chose a Mocha genuine leather cover with their wedding monogram in UV print.

Here’s some of my favourite album spreads:

The landscape orientation works perfectly with my Fresh design style as it allows a perfect flow – ideal for a spread like this where I can combine various images to create that all important visual story of the various parts of the big day. I alternated larger images that focused on the important details such as Jodie’s dress and her getting ready with smaller supporting images. The black and white shots break up the flow and create a perfect contrast.

Whilst the bride is getting ready, the groom and the guests start arriving at the church! I alternated the black and white people and scenario shots with some colour detail images of the order of service and the church flowers which work well together to set the scene and portray that sense of anticipation as the ceremony is imminent.

This spread is a great example of choosing a complementary mix of photos that work together to create that visual story. Of course you need those absolute must have shots of the happy couple reciting their vows and the first kiss – no wedding album is complete without THAT photo! – but adding in shots of the guests and bridal party helps to recreate the scene and atmosphere.

Confetti shots and the newlyweds emerging from the ceremony are some of my favourite photos! The ceremony can be quite serious, so these photos always tend to look a little more lighthearted…..everyone is excited for the couple and looking forward to celebrating with a party. Which is why I dedicated a whole album spread to this particular part of the ceremony. The beautiful black and white image perfectly captured the smiles on Jodie & Giles’ faces surrounded by all their guests, so it was only right to showcase this photo on it’s own page and the white border perfectly frames it.

Group shots can sometimes be a bit tricky when it comes to album layout – the photos need to work together but not distract from each other too much. This spread was dedicated to the bridal party. The uniform layout and symmetry works really well and there is a perfect mix of shots featuring several bridesmaids and those of just the bride or one other person.

Sometimes with the Fresh design, the images can all flow together across the spread, but other times it works better to separate the images on each individual page. As is usual with the bride and groom shots, I tend not to use more than 3-4 images on a spread. The three landscape shots flowed well whilst the main focus was on the large image on the right hand page.

Jodie & Giles had gone to great lengths with the details at their wedding, so an album spread dedicated to showcasing them was definitely needed! Again, symmetry played a part in this layout, particularly on the right hand page where I used similar sized images throughout to almost create a collage ensuring none of the images got lost or overshadowed.

The photographer had captured lots of little moments during the speeches that when put together in a flow across the spread help to recreate the scene and you can almost feel the atmosphere and laughter!  There is quite a lot going on in the photos so a mix of black and white and colour images broke it up a little and forces you to focus on each image individually.
