Why you need a professional wedding album!

As a wedding album designer, it’s probably not a shock that I’m a big advocate of couples investing in a professional wedding album but it’s not just because it’s my business, I truly believe that a wedding album is a necessity and it’s the main reason I do what I do.

The amount of times I’ve inwardly groaned where I hear friends or acquaintances say they’ve got their digital wedding photos stored somewhere but just haven’t gotten around to doing anything with them and that they possibly will someday….maybe. A Wedding Album can become an afterthought, something to deal with after the wedding; which in turn then gets forgotten about over time. I do get it to a certain extent. Weddings nowadays take a lot of effort – and money – to organise and there is so much to deal with and think about when you’re in the midst of planning your wedding day. If there is one thing you can leave until later, it makes sense to do so. In a world where everything is turning digital, there also seems to be the idea that physical wedding albums are a bit old-fashioned and dated. Well, today I’m going to spend a bit of time talking about why investing in a wedding album is sooo worthwhile!

#1 They are technology proof

I already mentioned above that the world is constantly turning more digital in every aspect of our lives. It certainly has it’s advantages when it comes to wedding photography…you get lots (hundreds in fact!) of shots of your day from start to finish; Nothing is missed out. Plus you get all your photos much quicker and in a format that you can share with your family and friends to your hearts content. BUT…we all know the issues you can have with technology. Files corrupting, computers breaking down, USBs getting lost without any back up and from a longer term viewpoint, how long will these formats last? We all remember CDs, mini disks, DVDs….in fact some of us (ahem…oldies) remember tapes and VHS cassettes. They’re all pretty much obsolete now and those CDs and DVDs we bought are useless. Books however, are timeless and your wedding album falls into the same category. If you look after it and store it safely, it won’t get corrupted, lost in the cloud or no longer work because it’s in a dated format.

#2 Albums come with a lifetime guarantee

I don’t want to harp on about the good old days (I’m not actually THAT old!) but things back then were built to last. You know that saying “You get what you pay for”…Well, this applies to the professional wedding albums I offer. From the high-quality photographic printing which ensures they won’t fade or lose quality like the old photos you dig out from your parents loft, to the careful hand-binding of the album, they really will last through generations and become a family heirloom.

#3 Wedding albums are tangible

Nothing can compare to the look and feel of a beautiful wedding album. There’s something very special about relaxing on the sofa with your album; running your hands over the beautiful cover and then turning the pages slowly recalling the beautiful memories of your precious day. That just cannot be recreated by staring at a yet another screen and swiping through each individual image. It’s for the same reason that so many couples are still sending out physical wedding invitations…The feel of the paper, the added embellishments and the envelopes all add a touch of exquisiteness you just don’t get with the digital version.

#4 They are the best way to tell your wedding story

Your wedding day photos aren’t like a small set of posed family portrait prints. It’s likely your photographer will have captured lots of moments you weren’t even aware of and what all those hundreds of photos add up to is a visual story of your wedding day. Now, you can happily flick through them all individually on your laptop or tablet, but that really isn’t the best way to tell the story. A professionally designed wedding album layout will bring several photos together one one double page spread to truly recreate those precious key moments as you remember them. Those photos of you both exchanging rings and that shot of your first kiss as a married couple accompanied by shots of your guests looking on, brings those memories to life like nothing else.

#5 You can share the wedding album love!

I think everyone at some point in their life has dug out the box of photos or family photo albums from when they were children and sat together looking through reliving the memories of holidays and family get-togethers. You can do the same with your wedding album and it’s a much more pleasant experience than trying to all crowd around a computer screen.

So, to summarise….digital wedding photos are great, they definitely offer some benefits. But they really only bloom when they are placed in a beautiful physical wedding album. My philosophy is why pay out all that money for the only lasting memento of your wedding day to be then hidden away in a hunk of metal. Free your photos!

If you are interested in doing just that and you want a stunning bespoke, professionally designed wedding album, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Take a look at the albums I offer and albums I have designed and I’d be more than happy to put a quote together for you.
