Amanda & Nikolas' Wedding Album
I always love designing wedding albums from destination weddings! Especially when the landscape involves the deep blue shades of the Mediterranean and stunning vibrant flowers. Amanda & Nikolas’ wedding took place on the island of Kefalonia….such beautiful scenery provided the perfect backdrop for a full on Flaunty wedding album layout design. Showing off those colours in their full glory! Nikolas wanted to surprise Amanda with the wedding album as a gift, so the pressure was on to choose the right one. He wanted to create a luxurious feel so eventually opted for the beautifully crafted Tuscany Leather in Marine Blue which was a perfect complement to their photos and greek island location. It was finished off with opulent gold cover stamping.

The wedding album design featured a perfect blend of my Flaunty and Fresh styles with lots of bold and large background images filling the pages. Here’s some of my favourite album spreads:
The first spread in any wedding album acts as an introduction to the rest of the visual story so needs to make an impact! Nik and Amanda had some beautiful scenery and detail shots which set the scene perfectly alongside the wording of a poem that was special to them and their wedding day. A perfect way to start!
I always find Bride prep photos great to work with when it comes to layout! These photos were a perfect fit for the panoramic layout. Two beautiful landscape photos of the bride blended together nicely – I just love how those colours of the bouquet pop against the neutral background and provide a contrast against the simple close up portrait shots of the smaller images. It’s a full on Flaunty spread design without being too full or eventful.
There were so many layout options for this album spread! When designing each spread, I think about the main focus and purpose. With this spread, the feature wasn’t about special moments as such but showcasing the bride and her bridal party once they were prepped and ready. The bride is, of course the main character (along with the groom!) but I didn’t want her to be the sole focus of this spread. So whilst featuring the two beautiful photos of her on either side of the spread filled the page, they didn’t take over the other images but worked in a beautiful flow across the panoramic layout.
Just how stunning are those shades of blue sea and sky?! This spread creates a snapshot of the wedding ceremony in full swing! Sometimes there can be a lot of similar ceremony photos – lots of close ups of the couple etc. The aim with every spread is to create a visual story that triggers memories of how those moments felt, the scenery and guests so it’s important – not just for visual appeal – to include varied images. The close up image of Nik and Amanda works as the perfect focus with supporting images of key ceremony moments so you really get a feel for how the ceremony unfolded.
Whilst some album spreads feature lots going on – others just need to showcase those key parts of the wedding day. Almost like a frozen moment in time! One of those moments is of course the moment Nik & Amanda official become husband and wife and that first kiss! You don’t need many photos on a spread like this – four maximum – and a simple layout. One full page feature image, two smaller photos and a close up of that kiss!
Posed group shots are still quite popular and are always quite tricky to work into any wedding album design. Particularly if there are quite a few of them! Too many, especially featuring larger groups just looks too cluttered and distracts from each individual photo. So this is an example of how they can work well particularly with the panoramic layout of the landscape wedding albums. I focused on one larger group photo (the bridal and groom parties) with just three other photos featuring the couple and key members of their wedding party.
Oh what a backdrop! The perfect setting for some stunning shots of the newlyweds. I try to keep to a smaller number of images in these types of album spread utilising images that have been shot in the same location but with different angles, poses and close ups. Photos need to work well together but not too samey!
The Flaunty wedding album design style doesn’t need to be overbearing or complicated – these three simple images of Amanda all take equal precedent on the stage in a left to right full page flow without any of them dominating the other.
The focus on this album spread was to set the scene for the wedding reception and what a setting! I could be a little more creative here and feature more photos to really get a feel for not just the physical setting but the overall atmosphere… you can almost feel the heat of the sunshine and the guests basking in it sipping their champers poolside! The beautiful image of the scene shot from above was the perfect backdrop image whilst the smaller photos I arranged in a fairly uniform layout to keep it from getting over complicated.
This album spread was all about the party which was full on! This spread was the perfect opportunity to go full on Flaunty…. the first dance photos of the newlyweds took centre stage overlayed with action shots of the guests strutting their stuff and the fireworks. A perfect ending to a perfect day….and wedding album!
