Isle of Skye elopement wedding album
I was so excited to create Clare & Matthew’s wedding album for their intimate elopement on the Isle of Skye. Their ceremony took place outdoors amongst the most breathtaking rugged scenery and their photos were absolutely stunning. As it was an elopement, it meant that the album differed from most of the wedding albums I design and I could create a beautiful visual story featuring just the pair of them.
They wanted the album cover to complement and reflect their unique wedding and the Dreambooks album in Copper Earth Velvet was the absolute perfect fit. The velvet material created a rugged texture and the earthy tone provided that outdoor nature feel. The icing on the cake was the cover text. Alongside their names, I incorporated the outline of the Isle of Skye. This was laser etched into the velvet and turned out looking fabulous! My simple and elegant ‘Fresh’ design layout allowed their exquisite photos to shine on the page.

A PICNIC ON THE MOUNTAIN
Just look at that landscape and scenery! Clare & Matthew had some pre-wedding day photos taken of them chilling out enjoying the wilderness of the Isle of Skye, so the first couple of wedding album spreads incorporated these images. In this spread, I used a flowing layout with emphasis on the stunning landscape image on the right contrasting between close up images and the more scenic shots.
GETTING READY TOGETHER
What I love about elopement photos is there is less to include in the wedding story…no group photos, shots of guests and speeches. So I can dedicate whole spreads to those precious little moments. This spread featured at the end of the ‘getting ready’ section of the album where Clare & Matthew had fun preparing together in their beautiful rural wooden lodge – Red Fox Retreat. I just love how the fun shines through in these photos and a film strip layout worked perfectly.
INCLUDING VOWS IN YOUR WEDDING ALBUM
It’s not just photos you can include in your wedding album! Clare & Matthew wanted to add in the wording from their personalised vows. There was a fairly large amount of text so I scattered it amongst the ceremony photos on several spreads. Creating a balance and keeping it simple was the key element so the text didn’t upstage the photos or get lost on the page.
DRAMATIC ISLE OF SKYE PORTRAITS
I just love how both the landscape and the weather provide such an atmospheric backdrop for these couple photos and my main aim was to keep the layouts simple with only a couple of images per spread to showcase them in all their glory. The white frame around the page edge created a nice contrast to the rugged colours and contours of the landscape in the photos.
CAPTURING THE EMOTION
With several spreads featuring Clare & Matthew surrounded by stunning backdrops, I decided to focus on close-ups of the newlyweds for this album spread. Rather than the flowing layouts across the double page that I used in several other album spreads, this one featured a showcase image in full on one page with three other images framed by white space on the opposite page. This separates the photos so they can be enjoyed individually and really creates a particularly focus on the full page image.
A BREATHTAKING BACKDROP AND A SHOWCASE PHOTO
As soon as I saw the wedding photos, I knew that there had to be one full-spread feature image! It’s not something I get to do with most albums as there are usually more photos to fit in. That was the beauty of this simple elopement wedding…the day is far less busy so there is more opportunity to showcase the smaller moments. This photo was the perfect choice!
THE WEDDING ALBUM FINALE
The last spread of the album, just a few photos depicting a beautiful relaxing evening in the lodge celebrating being Mr & Mrs! I kept the layout simple utilising different sizes to add a bit more interest. The album was concluded with a beautiful personal quote from the happy couple! Cheers!
